Let me introduce myself
I’M SAM, A FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHER & VIDEOGRAPHER BASED IN LONDON AND WORKING EVERYWHERE.
Where it Began
Like many good stories, mine began with an act of kindness from a friend who gave me my first camera back in 2009. Undeterred by the fact that I had to turn to the internet to turn the thing on, I was instantly hooked on the idea of photography and was determined to learn. Landscape and long-exposure photography quickly became my first obsession. Days, weeks, and months were spent researching creative techniques and it wasn’t too long before I found myself chasing sunrises and sunsets in the attempt to emulate the images of some of my favourite photographers. This became an obsession which had me driving across the UK and beyond in my free time.
In my attempt to take photography more seriously, in 2013 I signed up to a summer volunteer photography programme with African Impact. This gave me the opportunity to learn from professionals and photograph some incredible wildlife and scenery. With two safari drives a day for 30 days, and weekend trips all across the South African east coast, this trip was incredible and something I look back on fondly.
Moving forward a handful of years, it is safe to say that my schedule whilst at university (both academic and otherwise) was not exactly conducive to taking pictures and continuing with my hobbies. After studying Earth & Environmental Science at Cardiff, I found my way to London and began working for Sharky & George, curators of bespoke events all over the world. This provided me with an endless supply of once in a life time experiences, but more importantly, it provided the perfect opportunity to rejuvenate my passion for being behind the camera and capturing content. Since then, I’ve moved towards being a full-time freelancer, taking on a variety of exciting projects and expanding both my knowledge and portfolio and working with some amazing clients.
